When confronted with what to do on a much needed, relaxing, Saturday night my default has been to watch a movie and then, go to bed at a reasonable time. Rereading the previous sentence, I am quick to judge this plan as lame but then I remind myself that I’m almost a mother of 3 who must wake up before 7am the following day (and everyday after that except for maybe Mother’s Day?!). I am okay with this even if myself from 3 years ago would have scoffed. Recently though, there have been a slew of documentaries that have caught my interest.
Documentaries, to me, have become more than just creating awareness for myself. Many of them, also encourage action through community involvement or shifts in daily routines. Below, are five documentaries, some old and some newish, which I plan to watch. Admittedly, I have already watched Virunga but I couldn’t help but include it on the list. The films listed below are different in scope but what ties them together for me, is the link to thinking about the future. Specifically, the planet and state of the planet that my children will inherit from me. What documentaries would you recommend?
