Calm and Foliage | Linden & Lavender

Back from Holiday

October 11, 2017

Hello, dear readers! I just returned from a family holiday. This year we wanted to take advantage of the fall foliage in Vermont and then visit the ocean in Maine. Lots of outdoorsy activities.  I'll likely write about this adventure in the near future. More posts coming your way soon!

Warm regards,
Shauna

Maple cinnamon granola decorated with rose petals 🥀 for weekend guests. I am so glad that it is Friday! I’ve been burning the candle at both ends... and my word of the year is “rest” so I’m hoping to recommit to that this weekend. Did you commit to a word for 2019? I’d love to read what it is.
❤️❤️Happy Valentines Day! Fudgy Raspberry Brownies are up on the blog. Enjoy!❤️❤️
Yesterday, with everything cancelled, I got the kids outside in the bitter cold before the storm hit. By noon, we were inside, comfy with blankets while my youngest napped. By evening, I had all the candles lit just to make the house feel special. Truthfully, the snowstorm wasn’t near as bad as everyone thought it might be. Perhaps those who were doing the long commute to work experienced something different- I hope everyone got home safely. As much as people fret about the winter weather, I think we need these days to make us slow down, go home early, get some outdoor activity (yes, I shoveled snow for 2hours these past 2 days) and just have some quiet time at home.
It has been quite an intense time since I returned from vacation. Snowstorms, deadlines, sick children/sleepless nights and school closures. I’m working on a Valentines Day post for these extremely fudgy, raspberry brownies. Hopefully I will get up up before the day passes!! How is your week going?
Just wanted to express my thanks for all of the love you gave when I posted my daughters birthday cake about 2 weeks ago! You are awesome!!! Here are the answers to your questions: the cake is a straightforward 8-inch yellow cake recipe, the chocolate icing contains melted dark chocolate and Dutch processed cocoa, the little critters on top are my daughter’s favourite toys (washed and dried of course) and I made the little paper party hats out of old card stock. I hope that everyone who experienced the ice storm is warm and cozy.
Beach snacks. Orange blossom muffins, sand and all. •
As I was looking through my recent travel photos, I realized that I make a terrible travel photographer. If I do remember to take my camera, all the photos are shot at midday with the brightest light possible. This was the second time we purchased these muffins so I had another chance to take a pic.
Back from the land of endless beaches, family time and the loveliest people. How have you been?

Four times around the sun for my little girl! 🎂🎉❤️
Two days ago, my heart dropped as I walked towards my daughter’s school to pick her up. A car accident had spun up onto the sidewalk, almost colliding with the school. It is a busy intersection for pedestrians and cyclists. Thankfully, no one was injured but I all day I dwelled on the fact that if the timing was later, it would have been a disaster. It was a wakeup call for me as it has been something that I have tried to change and then given up on. It is a call to action to create safe and healthy communities. Communities that value the pedestrian over the vehicle. Communities that are vibrant. Communities in which it is safe for children to walk to school. *
Have you ever felt something similar? What did you do?
